Buhujaa Bridge Controversy: Chief calls out Former MP Over Misleading Claims

113

Buhujaa, Savannah Region — The Chief of Buhujaa has publicly expressed disappointment in former Salaga North Member of Parliament, Hon. Abdallah Iddi, following revelations of misleading claims made by the ex-lawmaker’s delegation regarding the construction of a long-awaited bridge in the community.

In an interview with Radio Tamale 91.7, the Chief disclosed that a delegation representing the former MP recently visited Buhujaa and falsely conveyed that Hon. Abdallah Iddi was still spearheading the bridge construction project.

According to the delegation, the former MP had allegedly paid for the transportation of construction materials from Accra to facilitate the project, a claim the Chief now says was untrue.

“I spoke based on what I was told, and it turns out the information was misrepresented. I regret any confusion this has caused and sincerely apologise to the current MP and the entire community,” the Chief said.

The Chief’s apology comes after community members questioned the authenticity of his earlier remarks, prompting further inquiry that revealed discrepancies in the delegation’s account.

Beyond the bridge controversy, the traditional leader used the opportunity to make a heartfelt appeal to the government, non-governmental organisations, and development partners to support the community in tackling critical developmental challenges.

He outlined three key areas requiring urgent intervention: A Dam for Clean Water – To address the community’s chronic access to safe drinking water, especially during the dry season. A Clinic – To improve access to healthcare and reduce preventable illnesses and deaths.

A Market – To boost local commerce and stimulate economic growth within Buhujaa and its surrounding areas. The Chief emphasised that while political accountability is important, the development needs of Buhujaa must remain a priority for all stakeholders.

“We are ready to work with anyone genuinely committed to bringing progress to our people. What matters most is delivering on promises and improving lives,” he concluded.

The incident has reignited discussions about transparency, community engagement, and the role of political representatives in rural development.
