Accra, Ghana – May 03, 2025
Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has issued an official statement to clarify and apologize over a recent misunderstanding involving Ghana’s Attorney General, Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine.
The incident stems from a social media post made by a fake Twitter (X) account impersonating the MP, which falsely accused Dr. Ayine of corruption.
In a detailed statement released on Friday, Hon. Obeng unequivocally disassociated himself from the controversial post, which labeled the Attorney General a “thief and corrupt.”
He clarified that the account in question, though bearing his name, image, and a verification badge, is fraudulent and not under his control.
A-Plus provided a link to the fake account, emphasizing that impersonation has become easier due to X’s paid verification model.
“I have never—at any point—accused the Hon. Attorney General, Dr. Ayine, of being corrupt or a thief,” A-Plus stressed. “That claim is false and misleading. The statements currently in circulation originated from a fraudulent account.”
He explained that his genuine reaction to the Attorney General’s press conference was published on his verified Facebook page, where he addressed the misuse of the fake post during Dr. Ayine’s engagement with the media.
However, A-Plus admitted that the tone of his Facebook post was inappropriate and has since taken it down.
“Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate. As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologize to Hon. Dr. Ayine, the general public, the NDC party, and Parliament, and fully retract those words,” he said.
In response to Dr. Ayine’s call for an explanation regarding an alleged scandal at the National Service Secretariat (NSS), Hon. Obeng distanced himself from any wrongdoing.
He clarified that he has never had dealings with the NSS and was only approached by an individual in November 2024 who claimed he was falsely accused and sought media support to clear his name.
“I have never received any payment from the NSS, nor do I have any business—directly or indirectly—with the Secretariat,” the MP stated. “If this support is being misinterpreted as an attempt to suppress the case, I respectfully disagree.”
A-Plus highlighted his consistent stance on fairness and his history of supporting individuals from across the political spectrum in their efforts to be heard, citing his previous public support for Minority Leader Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson.
The MP concluded his statement by calling for transparency and mutual respect in public discourse.
“The fight against corruption remains a critical priority for His Excellency the President John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC government as a whole. It is imperative that we all engage in this effort with integrity, fairness, and mutual respect,” he said.
