More than 400 young people, health professionals, policymakers and civil society representatives have gathered in Tamale for the 7th Northern Ghana Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Conference (NORGHA) for Young People  2026.

The three-day event, organised by the Northern Sector Action on Awareness and Development, or NORSAAC, is being held at the University for Development Studies from the 2nd to 4th September, 2026.

This year’s conference is themed: “Building a Healthier Future for All: Youth-Driven Action Toward Inclusive SRHR Services.”

Organisers say the event provides a platform for young people and stakeholders to discuss access to sexual and reproductive health information and services, particularly for adolescents and persons living with some form of disabilities.

Speaking at the opening, NORSAAC’s Head of Programmes and Policy, Mrs Hafsa Fuseini, said the conference is intended to give young people the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to make informed decisions about their sexual health.

“We bring them here to educate them about concerns relating to their health and how they should take care of themselves,” she said. “It also helps them build confidence and develop the skills to defend themselves when it comes to their reproductive health.”

Mrs Fuseini said the conference also promotes the inclusion of persons living with disabilities, ensuring that sexual and reproductive health information and services are accessible to everyone.

Participants are expected to discuss youth rights, healthcare access and ways to make sexual and reproductive health services more inclusive across Northern Ghana.

Organisers say the discussions will help strengthen youth participation in decision-making and encourage collaboration among communities, health workers, civil society groups and government institutions.
