The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has ordered Aschal Investment Limited to immediately resume work on the 37-kilometre Wa–Bulenga Road and complete the project within the agreed schedule.

The directive follows concerns over the contractor’s prolonged absence from the project site and the quality of work executed so far.

Mr Agbodza issued the order during an inspection of the Wa–Bulenga–Yaala Road, expressing dissatisfaction with the pace of the project and the contractor’s failure to return to site for more than a year.

The contract was awarded in 2024, but the minister said the continued delay was unacceptable, particularly for a project that has already been awarded and is expected to be delivered within a specified timeframe.

He warned that the government would take a firm stance against contractors who fail to mobilise to site or deliver projects according to agreed standards.

Mr Agbodza also raised concerns about portions of the work already undertaken, warning that some sections could deteriorate quickly if corrective measures were not taken.

He directed the contractor to return to site without further delay and rectify the defects identified.

“Tell the contractor to come back to site immediately and remedy all those things. The thing is already failing. It is not rocket science and you don’t have to be an engineer to know that what he has done will fail in no time, so call him back to site to address the issue immediately,” he said.

The Roads Minister stressed that the government would not compromise on the quality of road infrastructure being delivered to the public.

“We have no appetite for substandard work,” he added.

The government is expected to monitor the contractor’s return to site and progress to ensure the road project is completed as required.
