Tamale, Ghana – The Mayor of Tamale, Adam Abubakari Takoro, has officially cut the sod to mark the commencement of construction works on an Underground Water Storage Tank at the Tamale Abattoir.

The project is spearheaded by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) in partnership with Afrifoodlinks, with support from the European Union, ICLEI, and the University of Ghana. It is designed to enhance water supply and improve operational efficiency at the facility.

Mayor Takoro commended all partner organizations for their commitment and support toward this critical initiative, noting that it will contribute significantly to the sanitation and functionality of the abattoir.

The collaboration between local authorities, international partners, and academic institutions demonstrates the shared commitment to improving essential services for our city, he said.

Construction of the underground water storage tank is expected to bolster the Tamale Abattoir’s capacity to provide safe, hygienic services while supporting overall public health initiatives in the metropolis.
