COCOBOD to meet Cocoa Marketers over GH¢4bn debt

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is set to meet the Chamber of Cocoa Marketers Ghana to address concerns over a GH¢4 billion debt owed to members of the Chamber.

The Chamber has warned that the outstanding debt could undermine its ability to secure fresh financing to purchase cocoa from farmers when the new cocoa season begins.

But COCOBOD says it is taking steps to address the concerns before the opening of the new season.

Speaking to Citi  News, COCOBOD’s Head of Public Affairs, Jerome Sam, said the Chamber had already reached out to the Chief Executive of COCOBOD for a meeting.

He explained that the meeting, expected to take place next week, will provide an opportunity for both sides to discuss the outstanding issues and find appropriate solutions.

“Because of his busy schedule, which is known to them, he hasn’t fixed the meeting, but he was looking at next week where we will iron out all these issues even before the opening of this season,” he said.

He added that the meeting would also provide the platform for COCOBOD to give the Chamber the necessary responses and assurances regarding its concerns.

“That will be the appropriate forum for these discussions to be made. That is where proper responses and assurances will come,” he added.
