The Agenda 111 hospital project in the Nanton District of the Northern Region has remained abandoned and incomplete, years after construction works commenced under the previous NPP government’s nationwide hospital infrastructure programme.
The proposed 100-bed district hospital, which was expected to improve access to healthcare for residents of Nanton and surrounding communities, had reached about 50 percent completion by September 2023 and was reported to be at the roofing stage in February 2024.
Contractors working on the project had reportedly projected June 30, 2024, for completion, subject to outstanding approvals. However, the facility was still incomplete in 2025, leaving Nanton District without a fully functioning district hospital and forcing residents requiring advanced medical care to seek services in Tamale and other areas.
The prolonged delay has raised concerns over the status of the contract, payments made to contractors, the total cost of the project, and the government’s plans for completing the facility.
Residents and stakeholders are therefore calling on the government and the Ministry of Health to clarify the current status of the Nanton Agenda 111 hospital and provide a definite timeline for its completion.
