“We will come back stronger” — Fatawu Issahaku after Ghana’s 2026 World Cup exit

  • “We will come back stronger” — Fatawu Issahaku after Ghana’s 2026 World Cup exit

Ghana international Fatawu Issahaku has expressed heartfelt gratitude to fans following the Black Stars’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the round of 32 stage.

The West African giants’ campaign ended in the round of 32 after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Jhon Arias' first-half strike was enough for the South America outfit to progress to the round 16 of the global showpiece, being co-hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

However, the Leicester City has expressed his disappointment following the teams’ elimination from the tournament, while promising a stronger comeback in subsequent competitions.

“The biggest dream was to always represent these colours at this stage,” he said. “I want to say thank you to all Ghanaians for believing in us and giving us your wonderful support during this tournament.”

“The mission here was to fight and to make the country proud. This was not the position we wanted. The target was to go further and to fight with everything. It is always a pleasure and responsibility to represent this country and we never take it for granted.”

Despite the disappointment, Issahaku struck a tone of determination, insisting the experience will serve as motivation for future tournaments.

“This will be a big lesson for us. It will make us stronger mentally and physically to fight harder next time. I thank you Ghana.”

The Black Stars reached the knockout stage as one of the tournament's best third-placed teams after finishing third in Group L. Their campaign included a 1-0 victory over Panama, a goalless draw against England and a 2-1 defeat to Croatia.

Ghana will now turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September, as they seek to rebuild for the next phase of international competition.
