Takoradi, Ghana - Government has intensified efforts to boost Ghana’s energy generation capacity, with a directive for the accelerated completion of the planned 900-megawatt (MW) Combined Cycle Power Plant in Takoradi.

This follows a high-level engagement between government officials, the AKSA team, and key stakeholders in the energy sector to review progress on the strategic power project.

Speaking during the meeting, the government representative described the discussions as productive and reiterated the importance of the project to Ghana’s energy future.

The power plant, which is expected to add 900MW of electricity generation capacity to the national grid, is currently scheduled for completion in December 2027.

However, the AKSA team has been directed to expedite implementation efforts and work towards delivering the project ahead of schedule, with a new target completion date of September 2027.

According to the government representative, the investment is critical to strengthening Ghana’s energy security, supporting the country’s industrialization agenda, and meeting the increasing electricity demands of households and businesses.

“The project will play a significant role in enhancing the reliability of power supply across the country and creating the foundation for sustained economic growth,” the official stated.

The 900MW Combined Cycle Power Plant is expected to become one of the largest additions to Ghana’s power generation infrastructure in recent years, contributing significantly to the nation’s long-term energy strategy.

Government expressed optimism about the successful execution of the project and called for continued collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure its timely delivery.

The project is anticipated to provide a major boost to Ghana’s power sector, helping to address future energy needs while supporting industrial development and economic transformation.
