Tamale, Ghana ~ The Mayor of Tamale, Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, has handed over 1,170 dual desks to the Metropolitan Directorate of Education for distribution to 29 primary schools across the Tamale Metropolis as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning conditions.

The intervention forms the first phase of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly's educational support programme, which is aimed at addressing furniture deficits in schools and creating a more conducive learning environment for pupils.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Alhaji Takoro emphasized the Assembly's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and ensuring that children have access to quality learning facilities.

According to the Mayor, the provision of desks is crucial to improving classroom conditions and supporting better educational outcomes for pupils in the metropolis.

He noted that the initiative fulfills a major commitment made during the campaign period leading to the 2024 General Elections, where the Assembly pledged to allocate 10 percent of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) annually towards the provision of desks and other educational infrastructure.

Alhaji Takoro stated that the current distribution targets primary schools, adding that subsequent phases of the programme will continue to address the infrastructure needs of educational institutions within the metropolis.

The Mayor reaffirmed the Assembly's determination to translate campaign promises into concrete development projects that directly impact the lives of residents, particularly school children.

The Metropolitan Director of Education received the desks on behalf of the beneficiary schools and is expected to oversee their distribution to the 29 selected primary schools.

The initiative is expected to help reduce furniture shortages in classrooms and improve the overall learning environment for thousands of pupils across the Tamale Metropolis.
