The fixing of signage at Accra International Airport has been fully completed.
The works were finalised in the early hours of Saturday March 21, 2026 after initial delays the previous day.
According to airport authorities, “the maintenance, including repainting and installation, was carried out at night after the last flight due to the height of the structures and the impact on the car park area, in order to minimise inconvenience to the public and travelling passengers.”
This is expected to enhance navigation within Terminal 3 and reinforce Ghana’s position as a preferred aviation hub in the sub-region.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited also acknowledged public feedback, noting that constructive input from passengers and stakeholders continues to play a critical role in helping ongoing upgrades across the airport.
Background
Government officially restored the name of Kotoka International Airport to its original designation -Accra International Airport.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 23, the Ministry of Transport explained that the facility was previously known as Accra International Airport before it was renamed, adding that the decision to revert to the original name reflects its broader international recognition.
The Ministry assured the public that the change will have no impact on airport operations, safety standards, or international travel arrangements. It also noted that the airport’s code within the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has consistently remained “ACC.”
It also indicated that the transition will involve a phased update of official documentation, statutory instruments where required, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and related communication materials.
Government has further called on the public, industry stakeholders, and international partners to cooperate with relevant institutions to ensure a smooth and seamless implementation of the name change.
