The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, has announced plans to redevelop the long-abandoned Datoyili Bus Terminal and rehabilitate the nearby Datoyili Dam under a new public-private partnership initiative aimed at boosting local economic growth.
On Friday, October 31, 2025, the MCE led a team of officials from Mulch Company Ghana Limited to inspect the bus terminal following the company’s formal expression of interest to invest in and undertake the redevelopment of the facility.

The Datoyili Bus Terminal, which has remained dormant for several years, was once envisioned as a major transport link within the metropolis.
Alhaji Takoro noted that with strategic investment, the site could be transformed into a modern transportation and commercial hub, enhancing mobility, creating jobs, and stimulating business activities in and around Tamale.

He was accompanied by officials from the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA), the Assembly Member for Datoyili, and the Chief and Elders of the community, who pledged their full support for the initiative and expressed optimism about its potential to spur development in the area.
The team also visited the Datoyili Dam, which the MCE described as another vital but underutilized public asset.

He said the Assembly is considering a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for the dam to promote agricultural development, irrigation, and improved livelihoods for residents.
Alhaji Abu-Takoro emphasized that the move aligns with the Assembly’s broader infrastructure revitalization strategy, which seeks to attract private sector investment to revamp key facilities, foster sustainable development, and improve living standards within the metropolis.
Our goal is to create functional public spaces that not only serve immediate community needs but also drive long-term economic transformation, the MCE stated.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to deepening collaboration with development partners, investors, and local stakeholders to advance Tamale’s vision of becoming a model city of growth, innovation, and inclusivity in Northern Ghana.
