NDC Youth Advocates Condemn Seizure, Sharing Of State Properties In Kumbungu District

Email :48

Kumbungu, December 02, 2024 — The NDC Youth Advocates in the Kumbungu District have raised serious concerns about the alleged seizure and sharing of state properties by certain individuals within the constituency. The group describes the actions as disturbing and shameful, calling for immediate corrective measures.

In a press release, the group revealed that on December 20, 2024, constituency executives led by the Chairman discovered a large cache of items believed to be properties of the Kumbungu District Assembly.

These included 200 bags of fertilizers from the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ program, 12 motorbikes, hundreds of boxes of weedicides, bicycles, knapsack sprayers, and sterilizers. These items were reportedly found at the residence of an associate of the District Chief Executive (DCE).

The seized items were subsequently transferred to a warehouse traditionally used by the Kumbungu District Assembly, sparking optimism among constituents. Many believed this marked the beginning of the NDC’s much-anticipated O.R.A.L. policy even before the party officially assumed office.

However, the optimism was short-lived. On December 28, 2024, it was alleged that some constituency executives and their associates, without consulting other party stakeholders, entered the warehouse and distributed the items among themselves.

The NDC Youth Advocates condemned the alleged actions, stating that they have tarnished the reputation of the party in the constituency. They warned that such behaviour could encourage others to engage in similar acts, including breaking into other warehouses to seize goods meant for the entire constituency.

We wish to condemn in no uncertain terms the shameful actions of these executives and their assigns and call on them to, as a matter of urgency, return those items to the warehouse, the group stated.

They further threatened to petition relevant authorities, including the ORAL Preparatory Team, to ensure a full investigation into the matter. They emphasized the NDC’s commitment to fighting corruption and vowed to hold individuals accountable for actions that undermine the party’s principles.

The group reminded the executives involved that the party’s massive electoral victory was achieved through the collective effort of thousands of Ghanaians.

About 29,000 people voted for the NDC, and a section of about 20 people has no authority in any form to take what is meant for everyone arbitrarily, they said.

The statement concluded with a stern warning that such actions could undermine President-elect John Mahama’s resolve to fight corruption.
