President Mahama secures $100 Million AI-powered agricultural investment for Ghana

Yokohama, Japan – President John Dramani Mahama has announced a landmark $100 million investment in Ghana’s agricultural sector aimed at transforming the country into a technology-driven food production hub.

The investment, pledged by Doga Makiura, CEO and founder of Degas Limited, will be rolled out over the next four years.

Mr. Mahama made the disclosure through his official social media platforms after meeting Makiura on the sidelines of engagements in Yokohama, Japan.

According to the President, the partnership with Degas represents a major boost for Ghana’s agricultural modernization agenda.

Degas Limited has already financed over 86,000 smallholder farmers working across 122,000 acres of farmland, doubling farmer incomes while maintaining a 95% repayment rate.

The new funding will accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence into Ghana’s farming systems.

With AI-powered satellite monitoring and precision agriculture technologies, the initiative is expected to strengthen agricultural value chains, from inputs and production to market access, while enhancing food security and generating more employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

“This is a strong vote of confidence in Ghana’s vision for integrated, technology-enabled agriculture, and we are ready to deliver,” Mahama stated.

The development aligns with his broader #FeedGhana and #ResettingGhana vision, which prioritizes food security, farmer empowerment, and technology adoption as key drivers of national development.

If successful, the investment is projected to reposition Ghana as a leading AI-powered agricultural hub in Africa, with long-term benefits for both farmers and consumers.
