The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) has rejected allegations circulating on social media that the Assembly selectively distributed dual desks to political aspirants for private political gain.

In a statement dated September 21, 2026, the Assembly described the publication as false, factually inaccurate and intended to damage the reputation of the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Abu Takoro. 

According to TaMA, the furniture distribution was undertaken as part of efforts to address critical furniture shortages affecting teaching and learning in public basic schools across the metropolis.

The Assembly explained that it first conducted a needs-based assessment to identify schools experiencing furniture deficits before engaging a supplier to provide the desks through phased deliveries. Following the receipt of two consignments, the Mayor formally handed over the dual desks to the Metropolitan Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) at a public ceremony. 

TaMA further stated that heads of beneficiary schools who had formally applied for furniture based on verified needs attended the handover ceremony, which was covered by mainstream media.

The Assembly categorically denied that any furniture was allocated to or distributed through political aspirants or private individuals. It said the complete distribution list remains a public record and is accessible to citizens at both the Assembly and the Metropolitan Education Directorate. 

TaMA described the publication as an attempt to undermine public confidence in the Assembly’s administration and create political vulnerability for the Mayor.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, equity and the advancement of education for children across the metropolis, irrespective of political considerations. It has urged the public and media outlets to treat the allegations as false.
