Antoine Semenyo has etched his name into Ghanaian football history after becoming the first Ghanaian player selected in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. The Manchester City forward was recognised alongside the biggest names in English football after a standout 2025/26 campaign.

Semenyo’s selection comes in a star-studded XI dominated by Premier League champions Arsenal and runners-up Manchester City, while Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and City Women striker Khadija “Bunny” Shaw claimed the major individual awards at the Professional Footballers’ Association ceremony.

Fernandes was named the PFA Men’s Players’ Player of the Year after another influential season for Manchester United. The Portuguese midfielder’s consistency, leadership and creative output earned him the admiration of fellow professionals across the league.

Shaw, meanwhile, won the PFA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year for the second time. The Jamaica international forward was again a decisive figure for Manchester City Women and added the PFA prize to the Football Writers’ Association honour she received earlier in the year.sports.

For Ghana, however, the major talking point is Semenyo’s remarkable recognition. The Black Stars forward, who joined Manchester City from Bournemouth in January, was voted into the league’s best XI by his fellow players. His inclusion places him among the season’s elite performers and represents a landmark moment for Ghanaian football in the Premier League era.

Manchester City had four players in the PFA Team of the Year: Semenyo, Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki and Nico O’Reilly. O’Reilly also claimed the PFA Men’s Young Player of the Year award, capping a breakthrough campaign for the 21-year-old, who had already collected Manchester City’s Player of the Season and the Premier League Young Player of the Season awards.

Arsenal, who won the league title, supplied five players to the XI. Goalkeeper David Raya, defenders Gabriel, William Saliba and Jurrien Timber, plus midfielder Declan Rice, were rewarded after the Gunners conceded only 27 league goals throughout the campaign.

Brentford striker Igor Thiago completed the team following a prolific 22-goal Premier League season.
