North East Region: Three-day investment summit for 2027 proposed

  • North East Region: Three-day investment summit for 2027 proposed

The North East Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia, has proposed a three-day investment event in 2027 to attract investors to the region’s agriculture, mining and tourism sectors.

The proposed event, to be organised in partnership with the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), would showcase investment opportunities and connect investors with local businesses and other stakeholders.

Mr Tia made the proposal during a courtesy call by GIPA’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Razak Baba, ahead of the Authority’s Regional Investment Roadshow in Nalerigu.

The proposed event is expected to highlight the region’s potential in rice production, gold and limestone deposits, as well as its cultural and natural attractions.

The minister also stressed the need to expand local processing of agricultural products to increase value addition, create economic opportunities and enable businesses to derive greater commercial benefits from the region’s resources.

Discussions during the meeting also highlighted challenges confronting local producers, including crop losses caused by bird invasions in rice-growing communities.

Mr Tia’s proposal comes as GIPA intensifies efforts to identify investment opportunities across northern Ghana and connect regional businesses with potential investors.

Mr Baba expressed the Authority’s willingness to engage with regional authorities to promote local investment opportunities, support economic development and link businesses and resources in the region with a wider pool of investors.

The engagement forms part of GIPA’s Regional Investment Roadshows across the five northern regions under the Investment Opportunities Mapping Project (IOMP).

The initiative is being undertaken under the theme, “Driving Local Investment – Unlocking Regional Potential: Mapping Opportunities and Mobilising Growth in the Northern, North-East, Upper East, Upper West and Savanna Regions.”

If implemented, the proposed 2027 event would provide another platform to promote the North East Region’s investment potential, with the success of such efforts depending on the ability to connect identified opportunities with investors and support businesses to add value to locally available resources.
