The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Akatsi South Municipality has launched a week-long registration exercise to expand access to healthcare for more than 5,000 residents.
The initiative is part of the Scheme’s efforts to bring services closer to communities, improve enrolment and renewal rates, and ensure residents can update their personal information.
Registration will kick off on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Atiglime, followed by Ave-Havi on Wednesday, March 25, and Xavi on Thursday, March 26.
Activities will continue at Ahlipedo/Asafotsi on Friday, March 27, move to Wute on Monday, March 30, and conclude at Atidzive on Tuesday, March 31. Sessions will run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Francis Bedzo, NHIS Scheme Manager, told the Ghana News Agency that the outreach aims to remove barriers such as distance and cost that often prevent residents from accessing NHIS offices.Ghanaian news subscription
“This initiative is part of our broader strategy to achieve universal health coverage by ensuring everyone is on board,” he said.
The exercise will be conducted in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, local Assembly members, and community organisations, with a focus on including the less privileged and vulnerable residents.
Residents are urged to take advantage of the free registration and renewal programme to secure uninterrupted access to healthcare.
NHIS remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s healthcare system, providing financial protection and improving access to quality medical care.
