Residents of Torkoni/Blave in Hohoe Municipality are reeling after a local mobile money (MoMo) vendor was found dead on Thursday evening, 8 January 2026.

The vendor, who also sold everyday items like toothpaste, brushes, and sponges at the Hohoe main lorry station, was reportedly last heard speaking on the phone earlier that day. Sources indicate the conversations involved a demand for money, which the vendor said he would settle via MoMo or e-cash.

Assembly Member for the area, Mr Derek Adzoe, said that later in the day, some visitors reportedly came to the vendor’s home, threatening to report him to the police. He added that the deceased’s brother noticed a change in his mood but was not told what had happened.

When the brother returned from town, the vendor’s house was locked. After several failed attempts to reach him by phone, the door was forced open, and the vendor was found dead.

Police have taken the body to the morgue and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, with local authorities urging calm as inquiries continue.

The incident has left traders and residents of Hohoe deeply saddened and concerned about safety and community wellbeing.
