The Member of Parliament for Kpando, Sebastian Deh, has called for stronger financial inclusion and innovative support to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Ghana.
Delivering a statement on the floor of the House, he emphasised that smallholder farmers forms the backbone of Ghana’s agricultural sector and contributes significantly to food security and economic development.
He noted that despite their critical role, many farmers continue to face challenges including limited access to affordable credit, poor market linkages and the effects of climate change.
Deh highlighted the role of Opportunity International Savings and Loans (OISL) in providing tailored financial services such as seasonal loans, financial literacy training and mobile banking services to rural farmers.
The Kpando MP stressed that supporting smallholder farmers remains essential for strengthening rural economies, reducing poverty and ensuring a food-secure Ghana.
