The Minister for Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, has urged the newly inaugurated Board of the Tema Shipyard and Dry Dock to explore Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to modernise the facility and enhance its global competitiveness.
The Tema Shipyard and Dry Dock, responsible for the repair, maintenance and fabrication of ships in the sub-region, has faced operational challenges over the years, prompting calls for strategic restructuring.
Speaking at the board’s inauguration on Saturday, February 28, Minister Bukari charged the members to revamp the maritime infrastructure and create job opportunities for the youth.
“It is our hope that you will bring back this crown to the nation once again.”
The Board Chairman, Dr. George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, assured that the board is committed to sustaining 24-hour service delivery under the government’s reset agenda for the facility.
“I assure you we shall work arduously with the management and staff to move the Tema Shipyard and Dry Dock to the next level,” Dr. Yankey said.
