President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to multilateralism, peace, and international cooperation following high-level discussions with António Guterres in Addis Ababa.
During the meeting, the former President disclosed that he received a special gift of the United Nations Charter in all six official languages from the UN Secretary-General.

He described the gesture as a powerful symbol of the shared commitment between Ghana and the United Nations to strengthening global cooperation and advancing peace.
According to Mr. Mahama, the discussions focused extensively on pressing issues confronting the African continent, particularly the growing security challenges in Africa and the Sahel region.

He stressed the urgent need for collaborative efforts to address instability, violent extremism, and political fragility, while also consolidating democratic governance across African states.
The talks further examined ongoing regional peace initiatives, including concerns surrounding instability in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) countries.
Mr. Mahama expressed appreciation for the UN’s continued partnership with Africa and Ghana, noting that Secretary-General Guterres assured him of the United Nations’ support as Ghana prepares to assume the Chairmanship of the African Union in 2027.

The meeting underscores Ghana’s active engagement in continental and global diplomacy, as well as its resolve to contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding and democratic consolidation in Africa.
