21

Three persons, have been arrested by the residents of Tadzewu in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region for allegedly stealing and diverting some assorted food items meant for the students of Wovenu Senior High Technical School (WOSSETS) at Tadzewu.

The suspects were apprehended following a tip-off on the morning of Wednesday, 11th February, 2026 by some vigilante residents of the area led by the Assembly Member of Tadzewu,  Patrick Meli Attipoe.

The suspects, who are currently in the grips of the Dzodze District Police Headquarters Command, are the Assistant Matron of the school, Ms. Doris Foli, her sister, Perfect Foli as well as a Police Officer, Mr Bernard Amegbor who was the driver of the Toyota Camry saloon car with registration number GR6147-11, used for the operation.

Our newsteam learnt that the suspects have allegedly been diverting school feeding items of the school for sale for some time now.

This compelled the Tadzewu Assembly Member and his vigilante group to place a complete surveillance on the activities and movements of the suspects, leading to their apprehension.

The arrest which led to a search of the residence of the Assistant Matron, led to the retrieval of more food items including some quantities and gallons of cooking oil and rice, varieties of cartons of milk, sardines and mackerel fish, soyabeans, cocoa powder as well as garden peas amongst others.

The incident did not only leave both staff and students of WOSSETS confused and surprised but also attracted a number of the youth of Tadzewu to the police station.

They were furious and dissatisfied about the development and particularly about the police, one of who was allegedly involved in this diversion of food items saga.

The Ketu North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Rev. Martin Korbla Amenaki who responded swiftly to the distress call, was not only angry and disappointed at the development but also called for the law to deal with the suspects if they are found to be guilty.

He regretted that the police officer, Bernard Amegbor, who should have known better, has also gotten himself entangled in the matter.

Rev. Amenaki urged the police to widen their scope of investigation in order to get to the bottom of the matter. According to him, his outfit would not allow anyone or group of persons to thwart and tarnish the efforts and image of the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama who is tirelessly working day and night to improve the free SHS policy he inherited from the previous NPP administration.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Michael Aki Dzeble and the Matron, Ms. Theodoris Ahiaku, have all denied knowledge of the incident, describing it as a surprise to them.

The three suspects have been handed over to the Dzodze District Police Command Headquarters at Dzodze to assist in further investigations.
