NPP Primary: We expect an early concession from Bawumia – Owusu Bempah

Deputy Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and member of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team, Ernest Owusu Bempah, has expressed strong confidence in his candidate’s chances in the party’s ongoing flagbearer race.

Speaking to Citi News after casting his vote at the NPP headquarters, Owusu Bempah said the campaign team is expecting an early concession from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should he lose the contest, similar to the gesture he made in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, feedback from delegates and grassroots supporters suggests overwhelming backing for Ken Agyapong, whom they believe is best positioned to lead the party to victory in the 2028 elections.

Mr Owusu Bempah also urged Dr Bawumia to demonstrate the same level of statesmanship he exhibited in 2024 by conceding promptly if the results do not go in his favour.

“What Dr Bawumia did for President Mahama with the early concession in 2024, we expect him to do the same immediately he loses this election,” he said.

Dr Bawumia, who was the NPP’s presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections, conceded defeat to President John Dramani Mahama even before the Electoral Commission had completed collation of results.

At the time, he explained that his decision to concede early was in the supreme interest of Ghana’s democracy and peace.
