President John Dramani Mahama has insisted that Ghanaian law must take its course, following the arrest of a man known as Cyborg for firing a gun into the air during a meet-up with Nigerian music star Asake.
Cyborg was taken into custody on 29 December after a video of the incident went viral, raising concerns over public safety.
On 30 December, Asake personally approached the President at the Supercar Spectacle Sponsors Appreciation event in Accra, pleading for leniency. He explained that the firearm was discharged in the excitement of the moment.
Recalling the incident, President Mahama asked, “he’s the one the guy fired the gun for?” Those present confirmed it was Cyborg. The President added, “And he ended up in trouble,” prompting laughter from attendees.
Asake apologised on Cyborg’s behalf, urging the President to temper justice with mercy. While acknowledging the appeal, President Mahama was firm, stating, “Don’t worry about it. The law is the law.”
The music star had arrived in Ghana days earlier to perform at the AfroFuture Festival, attracting large crowds.
Authorities are expected to handle Cyborg’s case through the proper legal channels, reinforcing the government’s commitment to public safety and due process.
