Tamale, Dec. 26, 2025 – The IGP Special Operations Team has successfully rescued a young woman who was allegedly kidnapped and unlawfully detained for four days at Dalogu Yili, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis.

The operation followed a distress call received at about 9:00 a.m. on Thursday by the Commander of Operations of the IGP Special Operations Team, DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil.

The report indicated that the victim, identified as Haruna Adamu, was being held against her will by a suspect, Fuseini Ibrahim, a resident of the community.

Acting promptly on directives from the command, a team led by Chief Inspector Abdullai Tahiru moved to the suspect’s residence.

Upon arrival, officers found the suspect in the company of the victim. The suspect was arrested without resistance, and the victim was safely rescued.

Both the suspect and the victim were conveyed to the Northern Regional Police Command for further action. The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for detention and comprehensive investigations, while the victim was later released to her parents after they were invited to the Command.

Following the successful rescue operation, the IGP Special Operations Team resumed routine patrols across the Tamale Metropolis as part of enhanced security measures aimed at ensuring public safety during the festive season.

Police say the operation demonstrates the team’s readiness and swift response to security threats in the metropolis, adding that sustained patrols and visibility are intended to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and boost public confidence, particularly during the Christmas and end-of-year festivities.
