Tamale: Police Launch Manhunt After Patient Attacked at Teaching Hospital

Tamale, Nov. 30, 2025 – The IGP Special Operations Team has launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly attacked and severely injured a patient at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), prompting a swift police response and the arrest of five individuals believed to be connected to drug-related activities.

Police say the victim, Aroza Abdallah, who was on admission at TTH, was attacked with a cutlass by Ibrahim Mohammed, a man suspected to be involved in illicit drug trade and the unlawful possession of a firearm. During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly fired a sidearm indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.

Responding to a distress call from hospital authorities, the Special Operations Team, led by ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil, moved quickly to Choggu Hill Top, where the suspect was believed to be hiding. Although Ibrahim Mohammed had escaped before the team arrived, officers arrested five individuals found with quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The group is believed to be close associates of the fugitive suspect and allegedly part of his drug network.

A subsequent search of Ibrahim Mohammed’s residence uncovered several weapons and contraband items, including a Beretta pistol, multiple rounds of pistol and AK-47 ammunition, a long sword, a jack knife, and a quantity of tramadol tablets.

The five arrested suspects were taken to the Sakaksaka Police Station for detention and further interrogation. The suspected Indian hemp and tramadol were handed over to investigators for laboratory examination, while the recovered weapons were secured as evidence.

Police say investigations are ongoing to track down Ibrahim Mohammed and dismantle any criminal networks linked to his activities. The IGP Special Operations Team has assured the public of its continued commitment to combating violent crime and drug-related offences in the Tamale Metropolis.

“This operation underscores our unwavering resolve to maintain peace, enforce the law, and safeguard the community,” ASP Abdul Jalil stated in the situation report.

The fugitive suspect remains at large as security agencies intensify efforts to apprehend him.
