Trump escalates immigration crackdown following death of national guard member

17

US President Donald Trump has intensified his administration’s immigration stance, vowing to “permanently pause migration from all Third World countries,” after announcing the death of a National Guard member involved in a recent shooting. It remains unclear which countries the President was specifically referring to.

The renewed declaration came just hours after Trump confirmed the death of one of the two West Virginia National Guard members shot on Wednesday, November 28.

The alleged gunman, identified as an Afghan national, is now expected to face a murder charge.

According to the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, prosecutors are upgrading the initial charges from assault to first-degree murder, with additional charges anticipated.

Transitioning to the administration’s next steps, Trump revealed that authorities are examining whether the suspect’s family could be deported.

His comments were followed by announcements from federal agencies that they have begun reviewing asylum cases, as well as the status of some green card holders.

Meanwhile, the second victim of the shooting remains in critical condition, underscoring the severity of the incident that has triggered renewed calls from the White House for stricter immigration controls.
