Northern Regional Minister Calls For Accountability To Boost Rural Development

190

The Northern Regional Minister has called for greater transparency and accountability in the implementation of rural development programmes across the region.

Addressing stakeholders at the launch of the District Roads Improvement Project (DRIP) in Tamale, the Minister stressed that ensuring accountability in the execution of the project will help maximize its socio-economic benefits to host communities.

He noted that the DRIP initiative will go a long way to improve basic social services, livelihoods and social cohesion in areas that have hosted refugees and displaced persons for years.

He therefore urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), traditional authorities and beneficiary communities to cooperate fully in the implementation of the project, adding that effective monitoring mechanisms must be adopted to ensure that the resources are used for their intended purposes.

The Minister further commended the World Bank and the Government of Ghana for the timely intervention, describing the project as a crucial component in promoting inclusive and sustainable development throughout the Northern region.
