The High Court in Tamale has convicted six individuals in connection with a payroll corruption scheme at the Ghana Education Service (GES), following their guilty pleas under the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s plea bargaining framework.
The convicted persons, including school administrators, payroll officers, and accountants, admitted to illegally validating and reactivating salary payments for a teacher who had left their position. The fraudulent scheme resulted in unauthorised payments of GHS 86,000.
According to court documents, all misappropriated funds have been recovered, with total restitution amounting to GHS 106,319.64.
The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with additional suspects under scrutiny. The office is currently managing six other criminal trials across Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi.
“This conviction represents our ongoing commitment to protecting public funds,” an OSP spokesperson said. The office declined to provide details about other suspects under investigation.
