IGP pressures EC to resolve Ablekuma North results stalemate

30

The Inspector General of Police, Dr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to swiftly outline a clear roadmap to resolve the stalemate over the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Dr Yohuno cautioned that the continued delay on the part of Ghana’s electoral management body in completing collation of parliamentary election results in the Ablekuma North constituency threatens public confidence in the country’s democratic institutions.

Speaking ahead of a planned meeting with the EC, he underscored the urgency of the matter.

“The EC must provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a roadmap for the formalisation of the collation.

This is a pivotal moment. The way we handle the collation in Ablekuma North will resonate across the country. It will set the tone, not only for this election, but also for public confidence in the years to come,” IGP noted.

He further urged all stakeholders to work toward a peaceful and timely resolution: “Let us secure not just the ballot boxes but also the belief in the system. Let us not protect just physical lives but also the spirit of democracy.”

Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra region remains the only constituency out of the 276 constituencies in Ghana without representation in Parliament following unresolved disputes from the 2024 parliamentary elections.

For over five months after the elections, the EC has yet to collate results to determine who won the 2024 Parliamentary election to represent the good people of Ablekuma North.
