Accra, Sunday, May 11, 2025 — The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and acting CEO of the GOLDBOD, Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a public apology following widespread criticism over what he describes as a “kind gesture” that inadvertently became a subject of public controversy.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mr. Gyamfi acknowledged the backlash his action has provoked over the past 24 hours, particularly among members of his own party.
Although he did not disclose specific details about the gesture, his comments suggest it involved a personal act of charity that was perceived as inappropriate or politically insensitive.
“To clarify, this was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need,” Gyamfi said.
“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable.”
The NDC communicator emphasized that he understands the concerns expressed by party faithful and sympathizers who felt disappointed by his actions.
“To all such comrades, I am sincerely sorry for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views,” he stated.
While expressing gratitude to those who offered him counsel and encouragement during the fallout, Gyamfi reaffirmed his commitment to public service and to the broader ideals of the NDC.
“Let me state however, that my view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems and help others has not changed,” he noted.
“I remain focused on the task entrusted to me by His Excellency, the President, for the development of our country.”
He ended his statement by extending well wishes to the public, particularly to mothers, on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
Though the precise nature of the act remains unclear, the development has sparked debate on social media, with some praising the transparency of Gyamfi’s apology while others continue to question the propriety of the gesture.
