In a significant step toward strengthening the rule of law in the Central Region, the Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has commissioned a newly constructed Court Complex at Gyangyanadze in the Effutu Municipality.
The newly completed edifice, initiated by the MP, features a High Court, a Circuit Court, well-equipped offices for judicial staff, and a police holding cell. It was constructed on land generously provided by the Effutu Traditional Authority.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the MP described the facility as “a project deeply personal to me,” adding that it reflects his long-standing commitment to strengthening the justice system in Effutu and beyond.

“Access to justice is not only about physical proximity but also about removing barriers to fairness,” he said. “This court complex stands as a beacon of hope, symbolising that the law is for all, rich or poor.”
Mr. Afenyo-Markin also acknowledged the critical role played by traditional authorities and community stakeholders in making the project a reality. He expressed gratitude to the Judicial Service and the Office of the Chief Justice for their technical support and guidance.
The Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII, praised the MP for his development-driven leadership and his efforts in bringing judicial services closer to the people.

The facility forms part of a broader development blueprint known as “The Effutu Dream,” which includes the construction of a specialized children’s hospital and new offices for key public institutions such as the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana Revenue Authority, and the National Health Insurance Authority.
Addressing judicial staff who will work at the new facility, the MP urged them to uphold professionalism and ensure the court remains in pristine condition.
“To the staff who will work here, this complex is now your second home. Treat it with the utmost care and professionalism. Let us maintain it meticulously so that it remains as functional and magnificent decades from now as it is today,” he stated.

Justice Mariam Agyemang Gyasi Jawhary of the Court of Appeal commended the initiative, describing the complex as “a testament to the commitment to justice and the rule of law.”
The new court complex is expected to significantly reduce the burden on residents who previously had to travel long distances to Swedru or Accra for judicial services.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin concluded with a patriotic appeal: “Let us remain steadfast in our defence of the Judiciary, vigilant in preserving our democratic gains, and unwavering in upholding the values that bind us as a nation, justice, liberty, and the rule of law.”
