Tread cautiously – Organized Labour warns govt on post-retirement contract ban

36

Organized Labour has urged President John Dramani Mahama to exercise caution in implementing his directive to suspend post-retirement contract extensions for public sector workers.

The appeal follows the government’s recent announcement halting the granting of such contract extensions across the public service.

Reacting to the decision, Organized Labour expressed concern that the move could lead to a loss of valuable experience within the public sector workforce.

Joshua Ansah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), in an interview with Citi News, stated:
“I always say that the development of this country is the hallmark of every Ghanaian. So, whatever policy may come that will help develop the country, I am for it. But any policy that comes to bring the development of this country down, I don’t think you will go for it. So, let us see how it works.”
