Nanton, Ghana – A prominent financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nanton Constituency, Chief Mohammed Issahaku Saha-Naa, has strongly refuted allegations made against him by former Member of Parliament, Hon. Hardi Tuferu.
In a statement responding to an alleged leaked tape attributed to the former MP, Saha-Naa described the accusations as “patently false” and an attempt to tarnish his reputation within the constituency and the party.
According to reports, Hon. Hardi Tuferu accused Saha-Naa, alongside Napaga Tia Sulemana and Kamal Deen Abdulai, of working against his re-election bid in the 2024 parliamentary elections, which resulted in his defeat.
However, Saha-Naa has dismissed these claims, asserting that he has been a staunch supporter and a major financier of the NPP in Nanton for over a decade.
As a dedicated supporter of the NPP, I am proud to have been the sole individual sponsor of the party in the Nanton Constituency for the past ten years, without holding any party position or government appointment, he said.
Saha-Naa detailed his extensive contributions to the party’s campaign efforts, emphasizing that he played a key role in mobilizing grassroots support for the NPP.
He stated that he personally sponsored over 20 youth groups in all 20 electoral areas, donating GH¢1,000 to each group.
Additionally, upon his return from abroad, he provided an extra GH¢500 per group and donated 400 plastic chairs worth GH¢46,000.
In total, I invested GH¢150,000 in the constituency’s campaign, engaging in door-to-door, house-to-house, and polling station-to-polling station outreach efforts, he disclosed.
Expressing disappointment over Tuferu’s claims, Saha-Naa questioned the former MP’s motives, suggesting that his actions were driven by “hatred, greed, and evil” rather than truth.
He maintained that his contributions were aimed at securing victory for the NPP, not undermining its electoral fortunes.
If not motivated by hatred, greed, evil, or an attempt to destroy my future prospects in constituency leadership, the former MP could have applauded me instead of tarnishing my hard-earned reputation, he stated.
Saha-Naa, therefore, demanded a formal retraction and apology from Hon. Hardi Tuferu, urging him to withdraw the “false statements” made on the leaked tape.
Despite the controversy, Saha-Naa reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the NPP, vowing to continue supporting the party’s activities in Nanton and beyond.
He extended appreciation to party elders, foot soldiers, and supporters who have stood by him amid the allegations.
I will continue to support the party in the Nanton Constituency and beyond, even with more energy, despite the false accusations leveled against me, he assured.
The political landscape in Nanton remains tense following the NPP’s loss in the 2024 parliamentary elections. However, Saha-Naa’s statement signals his determination to remain a key figure in the party’s future engagements in the constituency.
