NOYED-Ghana, Norsaac promote women’s leadership in Savelugu municipality

13

The Net Organisation for Youth Empowerment and Development (NOYED Ghana), in collaboration with Norsaac, has organised a women’s leadership training program in the Savelugu Municipal Assembly of the Northern Region.

This initiative, part of the “Heard Everywhere and Represented Daily” project, aims to amplify the voices of rural-vulnerable youth and women, fostering their participation in Ghana’s governance structures.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of NOYED Ghana, Mr. A.A. Iddi, urged the President of Ghana to appoint competent women to leadership positions within the Savelugu Municipal Assembly.

He highlighted the detrimental impact of traditional beliefs that discourage women from leading when men are present, describing such mindsets as barriers to gender equality and development.

It is time to change this narrative and allow women to take up leadership roles to contribute meaningfully to national progress, Mr. Iddi stated.

Madam Mohammed Zienab Maltiti, Chairperson of the Savelugu Camfed Association and Savelugu Youth Centre, commended the President for his leadership and called for more inclusive governance.

She appealed for at least 30% of local appointments in the Savelugu municipality to be allocated to competent and deserving women.

Madam Maltiti emphasized that such inclusivity would promote gender equality and harness the potential of women to positively impact their communities.

The Savelugu Youth Centre expressed appreciation to the President for creating the Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment, expressing hope that youth would be actively involved in its operations.

Participants also extended their gratitude to NOYED Ghana and Norsaac for their continuous support in building the capacity and confidence of women and youth in the municipality.

This initiative marks a significant stride towards promoting gender equality and inclusive governance in Ghana.

Stakeholders are optimistic that the programme will leave a lasting impact on the lives of women and youth in the Savelugu Municipal Assembly, empowering them to take on leadership roles and contribute to national development.
