The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has inaugurated a committee to oversee preparations for its national elections, with former Suhum Member of Parliament Frederick Opare-Ansah appointed as chairperson.

The committee was inaugurated by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Butey, who urged members to conduct their duties with integrity, impartiality and professionalism in line with the party’s constitution and electoral regulations.

Other members of the committee include former Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei Asare as Vice Chairperson, Evans Nimako as Secretary, and Oboshie Sai Cofie, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, Salam Ama Appianimaa Damata, Eric Ntori and Frank Davies, Esq.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party will also join the committee after the conclusion of the region’s elections, according to the party.

The committee has been tasked with planning, organising and supervising the processes leading to the NPP’s National Conference, where national officers will be elected.

Speaking after the inauguration, Opare-Ansah pledged that the committee would ensure a fair, transparent and credible electoral process.

“We recognise the enormous responsibility entrusted to us. We are determined to ensure that every stage of the process is conducted with fairness, transparency, integrity and strict adherence to the Constitution and the rules governing the elections,” he said.

He called on aspirants, party officials and delegates to respect the rules governing the elections and support efforts to ensure a smooth process.

Opare-Ansah said the committee would engage stakeholders throughout the electoral period to build confidence and address concerns that may arise.

He added that while elections involve competition, the process should strengthen the party’s unity and prepare it for future political challenges.

The NPP said it was confident that the committee’s experience and expertise would help deliver a credible national election process consistent with the party’s democratic traditions.
