The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, in collaboration with the Office of the President and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has established a seven-member committee to vet candidates for appointment as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
The committee, chaired by the National Democratic Congress, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has been tasked with evaluating candidates from various districts to recommend the most suitable individuals for appointment by the President.
Other members of the committee include: Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Hon. Dr. Valerie Sawyer, Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda, Hon. Cletus Avorka, Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzra, Hon. Naa Momo Lartey.
The committee’s duties include:
- Vetting of candidates’ CVs and related documents.
- Conducting interviews for shortlisted candidates.
- Performing background checks on nominees.
- Selecting the most qualified candidates in order of merit.
- Submitting recommendations to the President for final appointments.
The committee will commence its work on February 6, 2025, and has one month to complete its assignment. The final report is expected to be submitted to the President by March 7, 2025.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the appointment of competent leaders to drive development at the local level.

That first stage of the exercise was a key part of the party’s commitment to ensuring competent, dedicated, and visionary leadership at the local government level, and it garnered significant interest and participation from party members across the all regions.
