Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called for strengthened Pan-African cooperation to enhance democracy, political stability, and development across the continent.
Speaking at the First Ordinary Session of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly for 2025, Rt. Hon. Bagbin urged African nations to embrace solidarity and collaboration to tackle critical challenges such as terrorism, regional conflicts, and climate change.
The Speaker emphasized the pivotal role of legislators in championing unity and fostering solutions to the continent’s pressing issues.
Africa’s progress hinges on our collective ability to work together under the ideals of Pan-Africanism. Through parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue, we can strengthen democracy, ensure political stability, and secure the future of our nations, Rt. Hon. Bagbin stated.
The event was graced by five other Speakers of National Parliaments from Senegal, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, and the ECOWAS Parliament, alongside the host and President of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly, H.E. Adama Bictogo.
Their presence underscored a shared commitment to fostering African unity through inter-parliamentary collaboration.
Rt. Hon. Bagbin was accompanied by his wife, Madam Linda Ofosuah Oboh, a delegation of Ghanaian Members of Parliament, Hon. Habib Iddrisu, Hon. Dorcas Toffey, and Hon. Dr. Sebastian Sandaare and members of parliamentary staff.
The session concluded with a call for deeper integration and renewed efforts to address the challenges impeding Africa’s development.
Speaker Bagbin’s remarks resonated with the overarching vision of a united and prosperous Africa, driven by inclusive governance and sustainable progress.
