Songtaba has convened consultations involving parliamentarians and religious leaders to strengthen efforts to tackle witchcraft accusations and protect people at risk of abuse in Ghana.
According to the organisation, the meetings provided a platform for Parliament’s Select Committee on Human Rights to engage with representatives of the Office of the National Chief Imam and the Christian Council of Ghana.
The discussions focused on protecting older persons and others vulnerable to stigma, discrimination, exclusion and violence linked to witchcraft allegations.

Songtaba said the consultations resulted in commitments to promote public education, challenge harmful beliefs and practices, and improve support for survivors and people at risk.
Participants also committed to strengthening collaboration and advancing legal and policy measures to protect human rights, the organisation said.

The consultations considered how stakeholders could support the implementation of proposed legislation addressing witchcraft accusations, should it become law.
Songtaba said its work would continue through partnerships, community-led action and efforts to ensure affected people have a voice in decisions concerning their welfare.
