Military, police reportedly take over Northern Ashanti Mines

  • Military, police reportedly take over Northern Ashanti Mines

Military and police personnel have reportedly taken control of the premises of Northern Ashanti Mines at Konongo in the Ashanti Region, with staff allegedly ordered to vacate the facility immediately.

The operation reportedly began at dawn on Thursday, October 22, 2026, although the reasons for the deployment and the authority under which the security personnel are acting remain unclear.

The development comes amid controversy surrounding mining interests linked to Ghanaian mining entrepreneur Angela List, following reports of an unsuccessful attempt to take over the operations of Adamus Resources, another mining company associated with her.

It is not yet clear whether the reported operation at Northern Ashanti Mines is connected to the developments involving Adamus Resources.

Northern Ashanti Mines has previously raised concerns about illegal mining activities on its Konongo concession and called for stronger security measures to protect its workers and operations.

Clarification is being sought from the management of Northern Ashanti Mines, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources regarding the reported operation.

Further details are expected as more information becomes available.
