  • NPP Activist, Bondirigbum escape gun attack early Wednesday

Tamale, Oct. 21, - Maverick NPP Activist and Journalist, Mohammed Bondirigbum escaped unhurt after gunmen allegedly attacked him at around 1am on Wednesday.

It is still not clear yet why he was attacked at gunpoint, however, Mr Bondirigbum who confirmed the attack told Mumuni Yirifa Yunus on "Ashahara Nye Dini" on Radio Tamale that he has been able to identify one of his assailants as an NPP supporter.

He narrated that he went to the Central Business District of Tamale at about 1:20am on Wednesday to buy food when three guys riding on two motorbikes attempted acosting while he was also riding back home.

Mr Bondirigbum explained that while he was moving towards the Gukpe Naa Palace, his assailants continued to pursue him and even asked him to stop.

“As I was approaching the Goil fuel station opposite VRA, they rode closer to me with each of the riders at my side. They asked me to stop and even tried pulling me off my bike while we were all still moving.” he narrated.

“I heard one of them asking another who was heavily built and in dreadlocks to shoot me.  He pulled out a pistol and pulled the trigger twice but it did not discharge for whatever reason” he added.

The embattled NPP Activist said that it was at that point he sped off into the Gulkpe Naa palace where he was rescued.

“About six people who were sitting outsise the fuel station, took to their heels when they saw him pull out the pistol, so I was defenseless. I had to speed off towards the palace where I was saved by palace guards.”

When the palace guards asked them why, Mr Bondirigbum claims his assailants retorted that they were pursuing him because he had “insulted them”, a claim he dismissed, clarifying that he had never had any encounter with them.

NPP Northern Regional Director of Communication, Yussif Danjumah in an interview on the programme advised Mr Bondirigbum to formally report the matter to the police and the Northern Regional Secretariat of the party for immediate investigations and actions to be taken.

He dismissed attempts by Mr Bondirigbum to link his attack to some party leaders in the region, stressing that no NPP leader would assign apparatchiks to attack anyone.

He advised him to stop what he described as “mercenary party communication” where he attacks party stalwarts on various media platforms and put his life and safety above any other interest.

Mr. Mahamadu Bondirigbum is veteran journalist who is also a known NPP activist.

He has come under criticism from his party members in recent times for his incessant attacks on his party leaders, leading to an attack on him on Wednesday 14 October, 2026, after a live television program at Zaa television, by some NPP party activists.
