The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) says it will introduce a water rationing programme within two weeks to address supply challenges affecting parts of the eastern corridor of the Greater Accra Region.
The affected areas include parts of Kpone-Katamanso, Tema East, Tema West and Ashaiman, among other communities.
Speaking during a tour of affected communities, GWL’s Public Relations Officer, Stanley Martey, said the areas would be divided into three zones to ensure a more coordinated distribution of water.
He said the proposed water demand management programme would enable residents to plan ahead and store water in preparation for scheduled supply periods.
“We will come out with a rationing programme, or a water demand management programme, and inform the various areas of the days on which they will receive water.
“For now, we are working to improve the supply. In about a week or two, we should be able to finalise the programme and communicate it to the affected communities,” he said.
Mr Martey further explained that the company’s engineers had undertaken re-engineering works in some communities to improve water flow and address the persistent supply challenges.
The proposed rationing programme is expected to provide a more structured distribution schedule for affected communities while GWL works to improve supply.
