Ghana’s passport has been ranked 13th among 54 African countries in the latest Passport Reports data, with Ghanaian passport holders enjoying simplified entry access to 71.7 percent of destinations across Africa.

Globally, however, the Ghanaian passport is ranked 123rd, with a Mobility Score of 72 and worldwide access equivalent to 36.4 percent of destinations covered by the report.

According to Passport Reports, the Mobility Score is calculated from destinations that can be accessed without obtaining a traditional visa before travel, including visa-free entry, visa on arrival or other simplified entry arrangements, and electronic travel authorisation (eTA).

Of Ghana’s global Mobility Score of 72, 42 destinations are visa-free, 26 offer visa on arrival or related simplified entry arrangements, and four require an eTA. A further 126 destinations require a visa before travel. The report indicates that Ghanaian passport holders have particularly strong mobility within Africa.

Across the continent, Ghanaian travellers have visa-free access to 25 destinations, while 10 destinations provide visa on arrival or similar simplified arrangements, and three destinations are accessible through an eTA. Fifteen African destinations remain in the visa-required category.

This gives Ghana an overall African access rate of 71.7 percent and places the country 13th in the Africa ranking published by Passport Reports.

The Caribbean records the highest regional access rate at 81.3 percent, comprising 10 visa-free destinations, two destinations with visa on arrival or simplified entry arrangements and one eTA destination.

Oceania records an access rate of 50 percent, followed by the report's North America grouping at 47.8 percent. South America and Asia record 25 percent and 26 percent respectively.

Europe, meanwhile, records zero percent access under the report's visa-free, visa-on-arrival, and eTA categories, with all 47 destinations classified as requiring visas. The six Gulf countries covered by the report are also all listed as visa-required.

The report also identifies destinations where Ghanaian travellers can stay for relatively long periods without obtaining a visa in advance.

Barbados and Dominica permit stays of up to 180 days, while Fiji and Vanuatu allow stays of up to 120 days. Several destinations, including Kenya, Mauritius, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, permit stays of up to 90 days under the applicable entry arrangements.

Some destinations also impose additional procedures despite being outside the traditional visa-required category. Cabo Verde, for instance, is listed as visa-free with an EASE process, while Singapore requires an arrival card. Seychelles is classified under the eTA category and requires tourist registration.

Historical data from Passport Reports shows that Ghana's Mobility Score has changed considerably over the past several years.

The score stood at 59 in 2020, rising to 62 in 2021 and 72 in 2022. It increased further to 75 in both 2023 and 2024 before reaching 76 in 2025. The 2026 score has subsequently fallen to 72.

The global ranking also shifted over the period, moving from 105th in 2020 to 124th in 2021, 128th in 2022, 124th in 2023, 120th in 2024, and 114th in 2025. Ghana currently stands at 123rd globally.

Passport Reports does not attribute these year-to-year changes to any particular political, economic, or diplomatic development.

The report also stresses that its rankings are based on its defined Mobility Score methodology. Passports with identical scores are separated first by the number of visa-free destinations, followed by eTA destinations and then visa-on-arrival or related simplified-entry destinations.

The latest figures therefore provide a picture of Ghanaian passport mobility based on the entry rules recorded by Passport Reports at the time of its latest data update. Travellers are advised to confirm entry requirements with the relevant destination's official authorities before making travel arrangements, as visa and entry rules can change.
