Binduri flooding risk remains low despite Bagre Dam spillage

  • Binduri flooding risk remains low despite Bagre Dam spillage

The Binduri District Director of Agriculture says the district is unlikely to experience severe flooding from this year’s Bagre Dam spillage due to relatively low rainfall and reduced water levels in the area.

Authorities in Burkina Faso have begun spilling excess water from the Bagre Dam following a rise in water levels.

However, the Binduri District Director of Agriculture, Razak Abugri, says the impact of the spillage on communities in Binduri is expected to be less severe this year, as rainfall in the district has been relatively low.

He made the comments during an assessment tour of communities in the district.

“Once they opened the dam and there was no rain in my district, there was nothing like flooding. Looking at things, there wouldn’t be flooding because when it rained, it was not heavy.

“So, from the look of things, we may not expect heavy rains, coupled with the Bagre Dam spillage, to cause havoc to our farmlands,” he said.
