President John Dramani Mahama has assented to ten Bills passed by Parliament, giving them full legal effect as part of efforts to strengthen governance, public administration, national security and economic management.

The newly enacted laws cover key areas of national development, including Customs, Community Service, Tribunals, Maritime Offences, the National Defence University, Income Tax, Energy Sector Levies, the Ghana Cocoa Board, Value Added Tax (VAT) and Excise.

The assent formally completes the legislative process, allowing the provisions contained in the Bills to take effect in accordance with the laws of Ghana.

According to the government, the legislation forms part of a broader reform agenda aimed at modernising critical sectors of the economy, improving institutional efficiency and strengthening the country’s governance framework.

The measures relating to taxation, VAT, excise duties and energy sector levies are expected to support government’s economic and revenue management objectives, while reforms concerning Customs and the Ghana Cocoa Board are intended to enhance administration and efficiency within those sectors.

The Community Service and Tribunals legislation also forms part of efforts to improve the administration of justice and strengthen public institutions.

Meanwhile, the enactments relating to Maritime Offences and the National Defence University are expected to enhance Ghana’s national security architecture, maritime governance and professional development within the defence and security sector.

Government says the ten enactments are consistent with its commitment to building stronger institutions, improving public sector administration and creating the necessary legal framework to support Ghana’s long-term economic transformation.
