Paul Pogba’s Monaco comeback appears to be ending before it began, with the Ligue 1 club in talks to terminate the midfielder’s contract by mutual consent.

Pogba is expected to leave the Principality after six appearances for Monaco. Discussions over an early exit have been ongoing for several weeks, according to reports, although the club has not confirmed the negotiations. His two-year agreement was due to run until the end of next season.

The development follows another injury setback for the 33-year-old. Pogba reportedly suffered a left-thigh or hamstring injury during training at St George’s Park in England, with concerns that the problem could keep him out for several months. He was scheduled to undergo medical assessment to determine the extent of the injury.

Monaco’s decision, however, is not thought to have been triggered solely by the setback. Reports indicate that the club had already informed Pogba’s representatives of its intention to end the partnership and had given the player permission to explore other options. The two sides must still agree on the financial terms of a settlement.

Pogba joined Monaco in June 2025 as a free agent, hoping to revive a career interrupted by a doping suspension and fitness problems. He returned to competitive football in March 2025 after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced his four-year ban to 18 months.

The World Cup winner’s first season in France was disrupted by injury, limiting his involvement. A change in Monaco’s coaching structure appears to have influenced the club’s plans for its midfield.

If the termination is completed, Pogba will once again become a free agent, with no confirmed destination. Reports have linked him with opportunities in Major League Soccer, but his next move may depend on his recovery and whether he chooses to continue his professional playing career.
