Gambaga, North East Region — The National Youth Authority (NYA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and other stakeholders, has organised a clean-up exercise in Gambaga as part of activities marking the National Youth Month Celebration.

The exercise, which was simultaneously undertaken across all regions of Ghana under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Lawyer Osman Ayariga, brought together young people, government representatives, community members, youth groups, and other stakeholders to clean public spaces and promote environmental sanitation.

In the North East Region, the exercise saw participation from personnel of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, recruits under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), students, market women, youth groups, and other members of the community.

The initiative forms part of efforts to encourage young people to take active responsibility for maintaining clean, healthy, and sustainable communities while promoting civic responsibility and community ownership.

Speaking during the exercise, the North East Regional Director of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Robert Kampi Laari, urged participants to prioritise personal hygiene and take responsibility for keeping their communities clean.

He encouraged the youth to become ambassadors and advocates of positive change, stressing the need for them to be active voices in their communities and patriotic citizens committed to the development of Ghana.

Mr. Laari noted that building a prosperous nation requires productive and responsible citizens who are willing to contribute meaningfully to national development. He therefore called on the youth to embrace civic responsibility, demonstrate leadership, and play an active role in creating cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities.

The clean-up exercise, which was carried out across all regions of Ghana, is expected to become a major priority of the National Youth Authority beyond the National Youth Month celebrations. The initiative is aimed at sustaining youth participation in environmental sanitation, promoting civic responsibility, and encouraging young people to take ownership of the cleanliness and development of their communities.

The NYA expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, youth groups, and individuals who supported the exercise and called for sustained collective action towards improving sanitation and environmental cleanliness across the country.
