The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council has imposed a daily curfew on Damankungyili, Nyeshie and adjoining communities following violent disturbances that left one person dead and six others injured.

The curfew, which takes effect from Tuesday, August 4, 2026, will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily until further notice.

In a press statement issued after an emergency meeting, the Municipal Security Council said the decision was taken in consultation with the Northern Regional Security Council to restore calm, protect lives and property, and prevent further escalation.

The Council strongly condemned the violence and extended its condolences to the bereaved family while wishing the injured residents a speedy recovery.

As part of the security measures, MUSEC has also announced a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition and offensive weapons within the affected communities.

Joint police patrols have also been intensified to enforce the curfew and maintain law and order.

The Council appealed to chiefs, elders, youth groups and residents of Damankungyili and Nyeshie to remain calm and cooperate fully with the security agencies.

Individuals with credible information about the disturbances have also been encouraged to assist the police with investigations.

Media organisations, particularly radio stations, have been urged to exercise restraint in their coverage and avoid inflammatory commentary that could heighten tensions.

The Chairman of the Municipal Security Council and Municipal Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, Hon. Abdulai Imoro Gong, assured residents that the Council would continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates when necessary.
