106 foreign nationals sentenced for illegal entry into Ghana

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced 106 foreign nationals to prison for illegally entering Ghana, underlining authorities’ strict enforcement of immigration laws.

Of those convicted, 55 received 28-day prison terms, while the remaining 51 were handed four-week sentences. All pleaded guilty to charges of illegal entry. Upon completion of their sentences, the court ordered that they be deported to their home countries.

The case dates back to October 25, 2025, when the accused first appeared before the court. After months of legal proceedings, they formally admitted guilt on March 12, 2026.

Investigations began on October 7, 2025, following intelligence that more than 100 foreign nationals were gathering around Kuntunse Satellite in Accra under suspicious circumstances. Police found the individuals residing in a local house.

During questioning, the suspects refused to provide their real identities, leading to their arrest and transfer to the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters for further investigations.

Authorities confirmed that the accused were nationals of neighbouring francophone countries who had entered Ghana between January and October 2025.

Further checks revealed that none held valid permits to remain or work in Ghana. The custodial sentences, coupled with the deportation order, emphasise the government’s commitment to upholding immigration laws and safeguarding national security.
